21 October 2021
Dear Friends of St Paul’s,
Week 2 of Term 4 is very much all about the graduating class of 2021. This week we have held our Senior Years Celebration and Awards Assembly as well as our Graduation Mass. Both are particularly significant events and core components of the Rite of Passage for all of the Year 12s. It was so lovely to once again be able to share these moments with a significant number of family members.
To all the award winners and to all the Year 12s we say congratulations and a sincere thanks for your positive and significant contributions to our college life. To the students concluding their time at the College we also say, “Good Luck, God Bless and please stay in touch with us.” While not quite finished, in terms of exams and assessments, the students now move into the old scholars section of the community, hopefully with many positive experiences to reflect upon and share with others.
I would like to thank our Deputy, Mr Josh Foulis, our wonderful School Organiser, Ms Bonnie Phillips and everyone who has helped make these events so special.
There was quite a significant moment for me this week in celebrating these events. I had the pleasure, quite some years ago of teaching Mr Simon Nappa. This week his son Mitchell graduates from St Paul’s, rounding out a double generation relationship that has been a blessing. It is one of those moments, along with all those we share with the students and families we have spent years of our lives with, that remind us of the great vocation we have been called to embrace.
While this week has been about our Year 12s and celebrating with them, much work is still being done across all areas of college life to make sure we continue to maintain high standards of study and responsibility. In addition, much work is also continuing in preparation for becoming a coeducational college next year.
Included in this newsletter and has been sent via letter to students and families, we are pleased to announce a significant number of staffing appointments for 2022. We have been particularly blessed with both the number and outstanding quality of applicants we have received for roles at St Paul’s. All those who have been successful have expressed their great eagerness to become part of the St Paul’s community.
We will inform you of further appointments as they emerge in the coming weeks.
Take Care,
God Bless,
Mr Paul Belton

Welcome back to Term 4. I hope your holidays were relaxing and you were able to enjoy time exploring what South Australia has to offer. Term 4 is notorious for being action-packed due to the nature of the significant events and fewer weeks on the calendar. As the weather heats up, we are mindful of our students hydrating and wearing hats. Term 4 is a hat term, and students are required to wear a hat during PE lessons and break times.
The primary events this term include:
Reception – Year 2 Swimming
This week our Reception – Year 2 students participated in basic swimming lessons at Water World. It is a fun and dynamic swimming and water safety program that focuses on developing swimming skills, personal survival, basic rescue and lifesaving skills. It aims to provide students with the required skills to lead safe and active lives in, on and around water.
“We got to try on a life jacket, and it is so much fun because we get to learn.” Benjamin Year 2
“Learning new swimming techniques and wearing life jackets" Braxton Year 1
“I like playing in the water and splashing around” Eyzell Reception
Staffing Update
Year 5/6D
Ms Alana Dunn will be taking leave from Weeks 3 – 8 this term. Alana will be travelling overseas for personal/family reasons. Mr Adam Baird will be replacing Alana for the remainder of the term. Adam is very familiar with St Paul’s and was employed here for all of Term 3.
Please join me in thanking Alana for her work this year, and we look forward to seeing her back in 2022.
Year 4T
Mr Greg Thoday is on Long Service Leave for Term 4, and we have appointed Ms Jessica Barolo as the classroom teacher. Again, please join me in welcoming Jessica to our community.
ESO
Mrs Jackie Getgood is also taking leave this term, and we are in the process of appointing a replacement ESO. Thank you, Jackie, for the wonderful work you do with our primary students daily and for everything you do to support young people to achieve their potential.
Vinnies Christmas Appeal
As a school community, we are now collecting items for the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. The appeal supports those in our community experiencing hardship during the upcoming holiday season. We were so proud of the number of donations collected during the Vinnies Winter Appeal this year. Throughout the Christmas collection, we hope to make the same positive impact in our community.
We would greatly appreciate any donations of:
- Non-perishable food items, particularly those that can be used for Christmas celebrations
- Christmas gifts and decorations
Donations will be collected in your child’s classroom. The final day for donations is 25th November.
Regards,
Mr Jake Stewart
Acting Head of Primary

Welcoming families into the College, our St Paul’s community celebrated the achievements of senior students with a formal assembly on Wednesday afternoon, 20 October 2021.
An annual recognition, this assembly celebrated and recognized student achievement within co-curricular, academic, leadership and Christian Service Learning. Including music performances from our Senior Rock Band and Jazz Ensemble, our celebration culminated in the two most prestigious annual awards for students at St Paul’s College:
Edmund Rice Award: Caleb Rogers (Year 12, Gleeson House)
Most exemplary modelling the attitudes and behaviours and achievements of our College values: Faith, Relationships, Excellence, Diversity.
Callan Award: Callum Hupfeld (Year 12, O’Loughlin House)
Most outstanding, Christ-centered service for community.
Other notable celebrations of achievement included:
Sean Ross Award (Co-Curricular Achievement): Moses Duku (Year 12, Marlow House)
St Gregory Music Award: Rocco Feo
AMPOL Best All-Rounder Award: Connor Gibson (Year 12, Dally House)
Year 10 Student Dux 2021: Shrey Patel (Year 10, Gleeson House)
Year 11 Student Dux 2021: Austin Lorenz (Year 10, O’Loughlin House)
St Joseph Vocational Training award: Cooper Figg (Year 12, Gleeson House)
ADF Long Tan Awards: Chris Rogers (Year 10, O’Loughlin House) and Caleb Rodgers (Year 12, Gleeson House)
Congratulations to these students who model success.
Another key component of this prestigious assembly was presenting the graduating Class of 2021. While their graduation is formally recognised in the Graduation Mass, this week’s assembly offered a chance to name each graduate, thank them for their contributions to the College throughout many years, and provide them with a small gift by way of gratitude and well wishes.
Year 10-12 students and staff can be proud of achievements in 2021, while I thank all families for attending to support and celebrate their child at our 2021 Senior Years Awards Celebration.

Achilles Cup
Last Term on 23 September, we took 51 competitors to the Achilles Cup, one of the longest running athletics carnivals for SAAS member schools. Due to COVID-19 restricting the numbers of allowed athletes, some students helped out by competing in event they had never tried before, like hurdles and hammer throw, and competed in the maximum of five events. These included some cross-disciplinary specialists like Awan Kardo, Ali Karimi, and Anthony Yuel, as well as majority of the Under 13 squad working hard to fill all of their events. There were some pleasing results from these students, some achieving a place finish. All students who competed on this day can hold their heads up high, as all battled admirably and represented St Paul’s College with pride. Ultimately, the team came 5th overall in Division 2, with the Open Boys squad achieving 3rd place, and all other age groups coming between 4th and 6th, so quite consistent results. Congratulations to the athletes for their efforts and determination on what was a tough day of competition.

Year 9 Cricket
On Monday 18 October, our Year 9 cricket team triumphed over Adelaide Botanic High on home turf by a staggering seven wickets. Anshman Sharma was our best batsman for the day, scoring 52 runs. Hayden Connell also put on a show, taking three wickets off seven balls.
Mr Damien Thamm
Teacher
Middle B1 Volleyball
The first match of Term 4 showed that St Paul’s had the potential to win the match. Unfortunately, inconsistent serving and lack of communication led to players losing confidence. There were some fine passages of play, good digging and a few spikes. The usual power serving of players came through in the final set. The match went St Ignatuis way; 18-25,18-25, 13-15. (25-14).

SPC vs CBC Tennis
We won comfortably on Saturday 16 October, triumphing over Christian Brother's College 8 sets to 1. What a great display of our students' talents!
Mr Bernie Cummings
Teacher
On Monday 18 October, we continued the wonderful relationship we have with our friends from SCOSA. A group of Year 11 students were hosts to our visitors, giving them a tour of the school, and leading some fun activities into the afternoon.
The program develops awareness of disabilities in our community through quality time building friendships, and presents the opportunity to continue volunteering in the future.

In 2021, a year of new beginnings, we swapped our annual colour run for a Slime Spectacular.
We joined with Australian Schools Fundraising Specialists (ASFS) to raise money and awareness for Fight MnD – Motor Neuron Disease Foundation. For every student that raised over $10, a prize would be provided to them by the ASFS.
The oval was transformed into a slippery and slimy obstacle course where year levels came out one by one in 20 minute time slots to tackle the course. The day then finished with five teachers being dunked in a dunk tank to raise more awareness for the cause.
The community was able to raise $13,472.00 which is an amazing achievement, but, what might be even more amazing was Year 7 student Luke Heinrich who individually raised $2275!
A big thank you to the whole community for continually supporting this great school event!
