Years 7-12 Semester 1 Academic Assembly
Last Friday the college celebrated the semester 1 achievements of our Year 7-12 cohorts, where over 150 students were recognized for their academic achievements and/or commitment to studies throughout terms 1 and 2.
Throughout the year, the College has emphasized the theme of ‘Striving for Excellence,’ encouraging students to give their very best in all areas of school life. Each student can achieve excellence through their approach to learning, which is evident through their attitude, effort, and ongoing commitment. The Academic Endeavour awards have recently been introduced to recognize those who consistently prepare well, participate fully, and complete tasks diligently across every subject. While some subjects may present more challenges than others, each student has the ability to choose how they approach their studies and the effort they invest in their work.
Semester Two offers a fresh start for students to reset and re-align actions to achieve their goals, and I encourage all students to continue striving for excellence as we commence the second half of the academic year.
2026 Subject Selection
Over the coming weeks all Year 8-11 secondary students will receive information regarding 2026 subject selection. While this is a relatively straight forward process for Year 8 and 9 students, it marks a significant decision-making period for Year 10 and 11 students as they begin to refine their subject selections to best support their academic success and future pathway.
To further support this process, each year level will attend a student presentation which outlines the process of 2026 subject selection.
- Year 8 – Monday 11 August
- Year 9 – Tuesday 12 August
- Year 10 – Monday 4 August and Thursday 7 August
- Year 11 – Monday 4 August and Thursday 7 August
All students and families are strongly encouraged to access the 2026 Curriculum Handbook (available on the College website next week), which outlines specific information regarding each year level and subject offerings. This includes new subjects such as Food and Hospitality, Nutrition, Child Studies, and new on-site VET offerings.
Year 10 and 11 Subject Selection
As part of Year 10 and 11 presentations, Leaders of Learning will provide subject-specific information for their respective learning areas and will be available to answer any student questions. In addition, students will receive guidance on the SACE, including the requirements they need to meet for successful completion.
Specifically for Year 10 and 11 students, there are several aspects that require consideration to make the best and most informed decisions that will maximise student success and achievement.
These include, but are not limited to:
- Selecting subjects that students enjoy and are aligned with their strengths.
- Referring to the SATAC guide to determine if there are subject prerequisites for specific University courses.
- Understanding if their chosen subjects have a 30% examination weighting (Year 12 only).
- An honest reflection on previous/current subject performance, to determine the likelihood of future success in that subject.
Furthermore, below are key dates for our Year 10 and 11 students and families:
St Paul’s College Career and Subject Evening
