World Refugee Day 2025
Last Friday 20 June marked World Refugee Day and in 2025, the theme is ‘solidarity with refugees’, which means listening to them and making space for their stories. Above all, solidarity means saying, clearly and courageously, that refugees are not alone and that we will not turn or backs.
As a college, we appreciate that many families have sought refuge in our community, from various parts around the world. As called by our Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) Touchstone of Inclusive Community and two of our college values, relationships and diversity, we are especially called to reflect on how we extend our welcome to those who need the most support, including refugees.
We are blessed by the many cultures and faith traditions that enrich St Paul’s College and we live out an understanding that solidarity means building community by working together. May this World Refugee Day be a welcome reminder of our call to ‘solidarity and justice’, as another EREA Touchstone that drives who we are as a community.
For more information, visit the UNHCR website.

New College PE Jumper
The new college PE jumper is now available for purchase. This new jumper will replace the old-style rugby jumper, which is no longer permitted as part of the school uniform.
Please note that the new jumper is to be worn only with the PE uniform and not with the formal uniform.
Jumpers are available in sizes ranging from 4 to 4XL and can be purchased from the Uniform Shop or ordered online HERE.
Prefect Assembly
On Tuesday 10 June the College Prefect Team led a secondary assembly based on the theme of Mental Health.
Recent statistics show that:
-
One in seven young people aged 4 to 17 years, experience a mental health condition in any given year.
-
Over 75% of mental health problems occur before the age of 25.
-
Young people are less likely than any other age group to seek professional help.
-
Suicide continues to be the leading cause of death for young Australians.
-
Stigma is a major barrier to help-seeking.
-
Raising awareness of mental health and mental illness will help young people.
Mental Health is an issue of growing importance for young people, and it is crucial that students look after themselves and each other. This assembly served as a timely reminder for students to check in on their friends regularly and to reach out for support should they need it. This may include a Leader of House, Home Group Teacher, College Counsellor, or any teacher that students feel comfortable with. Most importantly, it is important that students are kind to each other every day to ensure that St Paul’s is a safe and supportive place for all.
The Prefect team are to be commended on their organisation of the assembly and the delivery of such an important message to our student community.
Semester 1 Reporting
As we continue to Strive for Excellence, the upcoming school holidays provide an opportunity for all students to reflect on their efforts so far this year. As well as celebrating success and achievement, identifying areas for improvement is also a critical aspect of ongoing personal growth.
As we approach the halfway point of the year, the Semester 1 report provides an opportunity for review and reflection on academic progress, and students are encouraged to lead this conversation with their families.
Semester 1 reports will be released via SEQTA on Monday 7 July.
A reminder that Term 2 classes will conclude on Thursday 3 July, with a Student Free Day on Friday 4 July. We also wish our Year 11 students the best of luck for their End of Semester Examinations in Week 10 of this term.
Anthony Farina - Head of Secondary

Dear Families,
The Primary Years are buzzing with rich learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom walls, and next week promises to be an especially exciting time for many of our students.
Our Year 4 students are eagerly anticipating their overnight camp at AFL Max next week! Camp is a vital part of the Primary Years experience as it offers students the opportunity to develop independence, build friendships and step outside their comfort zones in a safe and supportive environment. AFL Max offers a fun and engaging program, combining physical challenge with team building and resilience-based activities. This overnight adventure is sure to be memorable and meaningful, with time spent together getting to know each other in a different environment, away from home. We can’t wait to see the growth that will come from this experience!
In keeping with our commitment to faith and formation, next Friday our R–6 Learning Spaces will participate in a Liturgy within their year levels to honour the Feast of St Peter and St Paul. This celebration holds special significance for our college, particularly the Feast of St Paul, who inspires us to live courageously and with deep faith. His story reminds us that change is always possible when we open our hearts to love and truth.
In preparation for this, Elisa Anthony (Year 3 teacher) will be leading selected students in Godly Play sessions on Tuesday next week. These reflective and imaginative storytelling sessions will centre around the story of St Paul, offering a beautiful and age-appropriate way to deepen their understanding of his journey and message.
This week also marked a special faith milestone for some of our students. On Wednesday evening, 9 children from the Primary Years began their Sacramental journey by participating in a Reconciliation Liturgy at St Pius X Parish. Reconciliation invites us to reflect, forgive and renew our hearts and is an important step in the spiritual growth of our students and deeply aligned with our identity as a Catholic College in the Edmund Rice tradition. Please keep the following students in your prayers; Milana, Morrison, Ethan, Jessa, Ian, George, Nicholas, Samuel and Chloe.
Behind the scenes, our dedicated teachers are also working diligently to finalise Semester 1 Reports, which are an important reflection of each child’s learning journey so far this year. Reports will be available to families via SEQTA on Monday 7 July. We thank our Teaching and Specialist staff for their professionalism and commitment in preparing these detailed reports that highlight both academic progress and personal growth.
Wishing all families a wonderful fortnight ahead. Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support as we continue to walk together in faith and learning.
Until next fortnight.
Marianne Loftus - Head of Primary Years
Primary Years Music Assembly – coming up next week!
Students in the Primary Years have been working with enthusiasm and determination as they prepare for the upcoming Primary Years Afternoon Assembly next week. These events are a valuable opportunity for students to share their learning and talents with the school community.
Whether they are speaking, singing, playing an instrument, or participating in a group presentation, every student plays a part in creating a meaningful and memorable experience. We look forward to seeing their hard work come to life on stage and sharing in the celebration of their efforts and achievements.
Parents are advised to arrive early and park along Lurline, Dally, or Blacks Road. Guests should aim to arrive at the Gym foyer entrance by 12:20pm. Senior students will be on hand at the Front of House to assist with directions. Doors will open at 12:30pm, and guests are asked to be seated by 12:45pm. Latecomers will be admitted at an appropriate break during the concert proceedings.
We look forward to seeing their hard work come to life on stage and sharing in the celebration of their efforts and achievements.
DJ RAGZ
This week, our music students were treated to an unforgettable experience with a special visit from DJ Ragz, an industry professional with years of experience behind the decks.
Students were immersed in the world of DJing, exploring DJ controllers, beatmatching, and mixing. DJ Ragz shared insights into the creative process, the technology behind the turntables, and what it takes to succeed as a professional DJ in today’s music industry.
In the words of our year 8 students:
‘We got an exciting opportunity to step into the world of music, thanks to an incursion led by DJ RAGZ. The session on blending two tracks and was an instant hit! The experience was made even more special by DJ RAGZ's impressive background and networking. Having collaborated with major international artists like Craig David and Shaggy, him helping and giving us a taste of the music world was an honour, especially for someone who would potentially walk down this path of life.’ Mishka.
‘DJ RAGZ was an immersive experience that introduced the Year 8 classes to a unique aspect of music - DJing. I think it was interesting to learn something so incredibly special. It gave us an opportunity to experience something that could end up being our future.’ Ridhi
‘Overall, I give the experience a 10/10, I had a lot of fun, and I would love to do it again.’ Cristiano.
A huge thank you to DJ Ragz for sharing your time, talent, and passion with our young musicians — and to Mr Oria for assisting with the technical aspects of the day.
Live@The Clovey – what a fabulous event!
On Monday, 16th June, our co-curricular music ensembles took to the stage at The Clovercrest Hotel for a truly memorable event. The evening was a celebration of live music, collaboration, and the vibrant community spirit that continues to thrive within our College.
Each performance reflected the hard work, passion, and progress of our students. The energy in the room was electric, with the audience responding warmly to every item on the program.
We were especially delighted to see so many families, friends, teachers and supporters in attendance. Your presence created a supportive and enthusiastic atmosphere for our performers, and your encouragement made a lasting impression on our young musicians.
A special thank you goes to The Clovercrest Hotel for hosting us and to the staff who helped make the evening run smoothly. We are also incredibly grateful to our music teachers and ensemble directors for their dedication, guidance, and tireless rehearsal efforts throughout the term.

Our Year 7 students created amazing animal artworks using mixed media. They used different materials they’ve been learning about, including watercolour, oil pastel, pencil, paint, and POSCA markers.
Each student chose an animal and used a mix of these materials to bring their artwork to life. The results were colourful, creative, and full of personality. Students learned how to layer different textures and colours, and how to use each medium in interesting ways.
Their finished pieces are a wonderful celebration of their learning, imagination, and growing confidence in art.
Sarah Fedele - Leader of Learning the Arts

This week, Year 7–11 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the Science and Engineering Challenge at the University of South Australia, Mawson Lakes Campus.
The event saw students take part in a range of hands-on, team-based STEM activities designed to test their problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation skills. We are proud to share that our College placed third overall—a fantastic achievement that reflects the students’ enthusiasm, teamwork, and critical thinking in STEM. Thank you to Mr Elliott and Ms Vicario for attending and guiding the students on this journey.
Christabella Iuliano - Key Teacher: Gifted Education (7-12)

Our Year 11 Biology students recently had the unique opportunity to step out of the classroom and into the wild on an excursion to Monarto Safari Park. As part of their studies on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, students are investigating the role of Science as a Human Endeavour in supporting conservation efforts, particularly for endangered species.
This excursion provided exclusive access to the park, with St Paul’s College students travelling aboard our college bus to enjoy a personalised, behind-the-scenes experience. Guided by Monarto staff member John, students were taken on an in-depth journey through the park’s expansive enclosures, where they learned about conservation breeding programs, habitat restoration, and Monarto’s commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility.
The excursion was not only engaging but also provided essential insight for the students’ current assessment task, where they are analysing how scientific practices and innovations are helping to protect endangered species.
A huge thank you to the team at Monarto Safari Park for their expertise and hospitality, and to our students for representing the College with curiosity, respect, and a genuine passion for ecological sustainability.
Genevieve Turnbull - Biology Teacher & Leader of Wellbeing Yrs 7-9

In Stage 1 Geography, we were visited by two of the state's leading ODASA urban planners and designers. This incursion supports their final unit of work - Sustainable Urban Places.
During the visit, our students were able to present their proposals for new designs or projects that will support Adelaide's growing population and therefore needs. ODASA were then able to offer feedback and considerations that students may need to take on, or even support them in figuring out new solutions for their proposals. We're incredibly grateful for their support and for taking the time to meet with our students!
Amber Dias - Leader of Learning HASS (Yrs 7-12) and Environmental Sustainability Key Teacher

Following the completion of Christian-Service Learning to Helping Hand aged care, the Year 8 cohort immersed themselves in their Reflection Day at the Monastery. It was an opportunity for students to connect and reflect on their service to their local community, as well as continue their faith journey.
Christabella Iuliano – Leader of Identity and Mission (Secondary)

On Wednesday, our Year 1 students were fortunate to welcome Mr Librino, Director of Identity and Mission, who visited to speak about the Sacrament of Baptism. As part of the Year 1 Crossways Curriculum, students have been exploring the significance of this important sacrament in the Catholic tradition.
During the session, they learnt about what takes place during a Baptism, the key symbols involved, and the important roles played by the family, the priest, and the wider Church community. It was a meaningful and engaging learning experience for all.
Year 1 Team - Campbell Burton, Phoebe Armitage, Kerrie Greig, Jacki Getgood
The Year 1 students have welcomed some new fishy friends into their classroom! These fish are supporting student learning in Integrated Studies by helping children explore the needs of living things and how to create appropriate environments for them.
Alongside our class pet alumni, Astrid the Bearded Dragon, the fish encourage higher-order thinking through comparisons between different types of animals. They also contribute to student wellbeing, offering opportunities for brain breaks, classroom responsibilities, and moments of calm during the day.

Despite the recent wild weather, work on our new Technologies Precinct is progressing well. SHAPE’s first month on site has been productive, with works divided into two key zones.
Zone 1 – involves the refurbishment of the existing Trade Training Centre building. Initial works have been focussing on internal demolition, and the pouring of the maintenance workshop slab. Over the next month, we expect the workshop and adjoining offices to be completed, along with upgrades to the external façade facing the Lurline Avenue carpark.
Zone 2 – is our new Food Tech and Digital Tech building. Initial works have focussed on the demolition of the old maintenance sheds, and the preparation of the site in readiness for civil and sub-surface works. Included in this has been the installation of the lift pit. Work will now focus on footings, slab reinforcement, and pouring the concrete slab. Towards the end of July, we’re hoping to see the first precast panels installed, marking a major step as the building begins to rise.
We look forward to sharing more updates as this exciting project continues to take shape.
Tim Martin – Business Manager

As part of our ongoing commitment to student safety, we’d like to remind all parents and carers of the important traffic management rules in place around St Paul’s College—particularly relating to the two types of pedestrian crossings near our campus.
Understanding the difference between the Emu Crossing and the Koala Crossing helps ensure a safer environment for everyone during busy school drop-off and pick-up times.
Emu Crossing – Lurline Avenue
-
Design: Marked by red and white striped posts with a red "CHILDREN CROSSING" flag.
-
When Active: Only when the "CHILDREN CROSSING" flag is displayed.
-
Speed Limit: 25 km/h applies when children are present—this includes children on the road or footpath.
-
Staffed: Crossing monitors are present before and after school.
-
Remember: No flag = not active. Flag displayed = slow down and stay alert.
Koala Crossing – Blacks Road
-
Design: Marked by red and white striped posts with two yellow flashing lights.
-
When Active: When the yellow lights are flashing.
-
Speed Limit: 25 km/h whenever the lights are flashing.
-
Staffed: Crossing monitors are present before and after school.
-
Remember: Flashing lights = active crossing and speed limit is in force.
Please drive carefully and remain vigilant when approaching these crossings. Obeying signage and speed limits not only avoids fines but most importantly, keeps our students safe.
Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a safe school environment.

As part of Reconciliation Week, students from Year 2 to Year 6 took part in hands-on Weaving Workshops. Naomi from Deadly Mentorz led the sessions, guiding students in creating woven bracelets while sharing cultural knowledge.
The workshops offered students a meaningful opportunity to yarn, connect, and learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditions through the art of weaving. It was a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
Campbell Burton - First Nations Key Teacher & Nadia Morris - Head of Teaching and Learning (Primary)

Year 5 Soccer Team
Our Year 5 Soccer Team has had an incredible start to the season, winning all six of their games so far! The boys have been absolutely dominating the pitch — not only with skill and teamwork but also with grace, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude.
It has been a joy to watch them grow in confidence each week and support one another both on and off the field. We are so proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings.
Go team!
Nella Apolloni - Teacher and Year 5 Soccer Coach
Year 9 Debating Team Off to a Strong Start
The Year 9 debating team has made an impressive start to the season, winning their first debate by arguing the affirmative case that "SpaceX has a worthy goal to develop a colony on Mars." It was a challenging and thought-provoking topic, and the students rose to the occasion with confidence and clarity. Congratulations to Vienne F, who was awarded Speaker of the Round for her performance as 3rd Speaker.
Just a few weeks later, the team secured another victory—this time affirming the statement "Defacing works of art is an unacceptable form of protest." A special mention to Sibel, who earned Speaker of the Round as 1st Speaker.
It has been wonderful to witness the team’s growth, as they reflect on adjudicator feedback and continue to build their skills in persuasive argument and public speaking.
