Welcome to Term 3!
It has been wonderful to welcome our students back to Term 3 and the second semester of the 2026 school year. A particularly special welcome goes to our new mid-year Reception students and their families - we’re delighted to have you join our school community.
Last week, I had the privilege of speaking to our Secondary School students at the Academic Awards Assembly. I spoke about the exciting opportunity that a new term and a new semester bring: a chance to build on the achievements of previous learning, reflect on areas for growth, and set new goals or aspirations for what might be achieved. Most importantly, I encouraged each student to have a go, to strive for excellence, and to aim to be the best version of themselves.
I shared the following quote from Theodore Roosevelt’s 1910 speech in Paris, often referred to as the ‘Man in the Arena’ speech. In my reflection, I emphasised that Roosevelt’s message speaks to all of humanity - not just to ‘men’ as originally phrased:
“It’s not the critic who counts; it’s not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could’ve done them better.
The credit belongs to the person who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred with dust and sweat and blood… who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if they fail, at least fails while daring greatly.”
We’re excited for what this semester will bring and look forward to working in partnership to support our students as they dare greatly, strive for excellence, and become the best versions of themselves.
