The Construction Trade Taster is a practical, one day a week, eight week course that introduces Year 10 students to the construction industry and gives them the experience to make informed choices about undertaking further related training.
On completion, students are awarded a nationally recognised pre-apprenticeship qualification and gain 10 credits towards SACE Stage 1.
Trade areas covered include: electrical, bricklaying, tiling and rendering/plastering. Topics include: an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, essential occupational health and safety requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials. As part of this course, students will undertake White Card training to enable them to meet work health and safety regulatory requirements and enable students to enter work sites.
The Construction Trade Taster is also called the Pre-construction Pathway Introduction to Building and Construction Industry and is the first step towards Certificate II Construction.
