St Paul 's College Middle School includes all students from Years 5-9.
The Head of Middle School is Mr Jon Franzin.

Philosophy
The structure, organisation and teaching methodologies reflect St Paul 's commitment
to principles of middle schooling:
> acknowledging the needs of young adolescents (10-14 year olds)
> improving the transition from one year level to the next
> methodologies that promote students being responsible for their learning
> small learning communities within a block timetable
> ensuring students have sense of belonging
> relevant and stimulating curriculum.
You can read more about the benefits of middle schooling from the Australian Secondary Principal's Association policy document and from the Boys: Getting it Right report excerpt here. You can also download the 2008 Middle School Information booklet here
(PDF 336KB).

Structure and support
St Paul 's Middle School strongly believes in:
> involving students in their learning
> exposing students to a wide range of academic and practical subjects
> providing rewarding and enjoyable co-curricular activities
> encouraging students to develop appropriate study habits
> providing a sense of stability and security as students grow as responsible
and caring individuals.
To encourage high standards from all Middle School students, the Head of Middle School works with Years 5-9 teachers to co-ordinate individual programs. The Head of Middle School is supported by:
> the Middle School Team Co-ordinator who assists individual teachers
> Middle School Team Leaders who support teachers with students' Pastoral Care.
Religious Education and language, literacy and numeracy are integral to all middle school learning. Adpative Education is a strong feature of the Middle School, with students extended and assisted through classroom support.
Each class has its own room and Pastoral Care teacher, with all Middle School students able to use all College facilities including technology area, gymnasium and library.
Boys have opportunities to be involved in activities that develop their leadership skills
and encourage compassion for others through Student Representative Council and community projects. Middle School students are expected to participate in
co-curricular activities against other independent and Catholic schools.

Curriculum
St Paul 's offer a broad curriculum, where boys have the opportunity to acquire skills across a wide variety of subject areas.

Co-curricular
Students can become involved in a wide range of co-curricular activities at St Paul 's College. The program provides opportunities for staff, students, parents and old
scholars to interact positively, creating a strong College community and building team spirit.

In Terms 2 and 3, boys can compete in football, soccer, basketball, table tennis,
squash and cross country running. St Paul 's is well known for our strong sporting tradition, with many students going on to play professional sport. Read about our
Success Stories here.
St Paul 's also offers a range of non-sporting activities including:
> Annual Musical (PDF 118KB), held in conjunction with Kildare College
> School Band
> School Annual
> Media Club
Students are encouraged to participate in at least one co-curricular activity each semester.

Student Showcase
Teachers encourage student literacy in innovative ways, and technology is used often
in the classroom to develop key skills.
Mrs Maria Gibson's Year 8 Computing class used Publisher to design brochures promoting St Paul's. The brochures highlighted students' ability to design an attractive publication
as well as synthesise information.
A selection of students' work can be accessed below.
